There's nothing more luxurious than a long, hot shower, don't you think? So what about an outdoor shower? To me, the idea seems totally inviting and even a little liberating too! It just seems so luxurious and relaxing to be able to shower outdoors in the open air.
You don't necessarily have to live by the beach or go to a spa to enjoy such a thing. I've gathered together eight more dreamy outdoor shower inspirations below:

This setup takes the outdoor shower one step further by adding two fixtures and an extra deep bathtub. Where do I sign up for this zen-like escape?

Rock walls and hanging plants, your very own private grotto!

One concrete wall and a curtain for privacy are all you need in this shower space.

Love the subtle setup outside of this cottage-style home.

Beach shower? Check! Makes it easy to rinse off that surfboard, too.

I love the mirrored tile and fenced in shower spot seen here, looks like such a delightful little escape. Is that an orange tree I spy?

A more modern approach with white walls, black slate tile, round stone, and a slat floor. Ooh, and a bench! Benches in showers are my favorite. I'm about 10 times more likely to shave my legs if there's a bench in the shower.

Looks like the perfect place to rinse off! The dark walls make it feel very private.
So what do you think? Have you ever taken an outdoor shower? Would you ever consider creating an outdoor shower space or do you prefer to keep that business indoors?

If the last nursery I posted was a mix of bold colors, vintage finds, and grown-up style, this one brings things back to all baby. With a neutral palette featuring mostly whites and soft grays, I think you'll love this sweet nursery and its modern feel.
Scroll through to see more:

I see more and more baby's rooms foregoing the traditional changing table setup in favor of using a credenza or dresser instead. I've totally done the same thing and I think it's smart and functional! That stacked elephant print is darling and looks like it might be a do-able DIY project if you're feeling inspired.

I love the muted pattern on the wallpaper. It adds a little texture to the clean feeling of this room. That rocker? To die for!

On the bookshelf is where you see the only pops of color with toys and carefully stacked books. The "ABC" print is so unusual and I love the subtle elephant theme that seems to be going on in this room.
You can see a few more images and hear the story behind this nursery on A Little Lovely.
So what do you think? Are you a fan of this baby-friendly, neutral nursery, or do you wish it packed a little more pop?

Staircases seem to be the landing place for just about everything; foot traffic, lost socks, folded laundry, spare shoes, you name it! Why mistreat this all-too-traveled pathway in your home with drab, ratty carpet when you could dress it up with a one-of-a-kind runner like the one pictured above?!
Carpet runners aren't your only option though. Click through for 5 more fun ways to dress up your steps.

Instead of using carpet, why not some paint instead? Love the white walls and navy (or is that charcoal?) painted runner. Perfection!

Wallpaper on your staircase! I love it. This Orla Kiely line is one of my favorites and looks so happy on those steps.

Mirrored tile, would you dare? Personally, I think it looks amazing! I love the contrast of the antique-looking wood and the very modern-looking shimmery tiles.

These bright stripes are so cool. I'm afraid I'd get a little cross-eyed, though, and fall right on my face!

Numbered stairs -- how creative is this? It seems like an especially cute idea for a family with pre-schoolers who are just learning their 1-2-3s. I can imagine my kids coming up with all sorts of games based on stairs like this.
So does this leave you feeling inspired to give your stairs a little facelift? Have you ever done anything special to your stairs? I'd love to hear!

I don't know about you, but as a kid, I loved any chance I got to "camp out" in the backyard with my siblings and friends. Usually, this meant sleepovers on the trampoline. We had so much fun!
Wouldn't it be awesome to construct a backyard tent setup like the one pictured above? My kids would go crazy for something like that! Truthfully, I think I'd be the one sneaking away to read a good book (or maybe take a nap!) in there as often as I could.
A backyard tent doesn't have to be elaborate. So in that spirit, I've gathered 4 more fun tent inspirations below.

Love this simple tent spotted here. Doesn't get much easier than an old sheet draped over a line to create the perfect shady hideaway.

How cool would it be to have your very own backyard teepee? Find all the DIY instructions here, looks easy enough! The best part is that you can have your kids paint and decorate the outside of the teepee themselves. What fun!

Another fun DIY tent, with simple assembly instructions found here.

If the DIY stuff doesn't interest you, how about this impressive retro-patterned tent from Cath Kidston, one of my favorite textile designers. You can see more pictures and find purchasing information here.
Did you have a tent in the yard as a kid? Would you ever make one for your own children?

This gorgeous nursery has just the right amount of modern hipster mixed with vintage flair. That blocky M is for Monroe, whose mom Erika can take credit for pulling together this funky space with flea market finds and other delightful treasures.
You can click through to see more shots of this super rad baby girl's room. But before you continue, shouldn't we all just admire that amazing red credenza? I'm coveting!

Using the antique credenza for a changing table was such a bold move and it works beautifully, don't you think? I love that horse head lamp and the minimalist wall gallery arrangement as well.

How awesome are those Ray-Ban prints above the crib? So cool!

Super modern Bertoia chairs, but in mini form, are perfect for a hip nursery space like this one.
Do you like this baby's room? Personally, I love it!
P.S. You can read more about Monroe's nursery on photographer Kristin Eldrige's blog here.

If you want to test out your green thumb but don't have a lot of ground space, check out this inventive container garden Linsey and her family made out of wooden wine boxes for their patio in downtown Houston. I love their creativity in crafting a working garden for their urban lifestyle by re-purposing a common item and making it function inside their space.
See a few more images of this clever little garden project below:

Linsey and her husband drilled holes in the bottoms of the crates and on the platform they salvaged from her husband's office to allow for drainage. They then filled the crates with soil and plants.

Lettuce and salad greens are super easy to grow. Don't these look positively edible?

In a follow-up post, Linsey details how she and her sister went back and lined the raised platform with aluminum flashing to protect it from water damage.

She didn't like how the edges looked and simply trimmed away the excess for a cleaner feel. Perfect!
What a smart way to put wine boxes to good use. I imagine a quick trip to the local liquor store would be quite fruitful (wink) to procure the necessary containers, and that platform looks simple enough for those of us with even the most basic construction skills.
Find Linsey's full tutorial here with an informative follow-up post here.

I'm a sucker for smart design, which is probably why I love built-in-anything so much. Built-in beds for kids are especially awesome because not only do they maximize space, but they add extra storage as well. What's not to love about that?
See 5 more fantastic built-in beds for kids below:

Adding a trundle to this classic paneled built-in bed was pure genius. Double the bed for half the space! I love it.

I've seen a lot of built-ins take advantage of the low ceilings found in attic spaces. Without the side-by-side bunks, this long room would have been pretty difficult to utilize effectively. The bright bedding and light floors were a fantastic choice. What kid wouldn't want to sleep here?

Adding a play space underneath a loft bed is such a fun and playful idea. This castle-themed bed looks like a great place to let your little one's imagination run wild! I'll bet it sometimes doubles as a puppet theater.

This cool built-in bed is perfect for your older child. I love the bright walls and especially the privacy curtain, because we all know how important that is to kids of a certain age ...

I adore everything about this modern space, from the built-in bed to the bookshelves to the stairs. It's so contemporary and right up my alley.
How do you feel about built-in beds for your child's room? Too permanent for your taste, or dying to try?

All this warm weather talk has me so anxious for summertime to hurry up and get here already! After seeing this image, I am convinced that I need to try and find a spot for a hammock because I can't think of a better place to spend a lazy summer afternoon, can you? Hammocks make me feel like I'm on vacation!
Find 5 other equally dreamy hammocks below.

Porch fan, open shutters, cold drink? Yes please!

When I imagine living in the South, this is what it looks like. I want to settle in with a good book and forget about the rest of the day.

Everything about this room seems utterly warm and relaxing, the hammock included. But the materials make it feel adventurous and exotic at the same time.

I love how this patio is screened in with trees and ferns -- the whole thing feels so peaceful and zen. The indoor and outdoor spaces blend together. I wonder if I'll ever live somewhere warm enough to do this ...

I picture this scene overlooking the ocean and I can almost hear the surf and feel that salty breeze from here. What a perfect spot for a hammock.
Oh, and make sure you check out this entire building full of hammocks while we're on the subject. It's pretty amazing.
Have you ever put a hammock up before?

Aren't these paper punch eggs so cute? The tutorial calls for straight pins when attaching the paper circles to the egg, but glue would probably work too.
I got a good laugh out of the funny poses these felt chicks are striking on this tutorial and I love how bright and cheery they are. Perfect for Easter and spring in general.
This egg garland is made out of paint chips -- what an easy and colorful idea!
Spray-painted silhouette mason jars, used here as planters, could really be filled with just about anything -- or even left alone!
A different take on an egg garland, this one made with string. What a great project to get the kids involved in!
This paper mache egg wreath looks so much more put together than the other plastic egg wreaths I've seen around. A little time-consuming, but the final outcome looks festive indeed.

I think soothing is what most people go for when it comes to creating a nursery, and soothing is exactly what designer Lindsay Brier managed to achieve with this space for her son, Hawken. Its neutral base with bright pops of orange could definitely work for either gender. But she also used stripes!
See more about how she decorated her baby's room, below.

It seems as though Lindsay's love for stripes extends through the rest of her house with these vertical ones in the hall to contrast the horizontal ones in the nursery. The idea of painting stripes seems time-consuming to me, but I LOVE the way it looks. Definitely worth the effort.

Framed black-and-white photos and simple letters for baby Hawken's initials keep the walls clean and uncluttered.

I love the patterned window treatments and the velvet ottoman. That armoire over by the crib was found at IKEA and dressed up a bit with new knobs from Pottery Barn Kids, one of my favorite tricks for decorating on a budget! Get more details -- including paint colors and inspirations -- about this peaceful nursery here.

Here's a fun fact: Lucite and Plexiglas are basically the same thing. Both are forms of acrylic glass and can be used in tons of different ways. A few years ago we saw Lucite make a resurgence all over the design world, and I couldn't be more thrilled to see the trend continue.
Today, I thought I'd share some of my favorite ways to incorporate more Lucite into your life. Maybe you'll become a Lucite fan too!

I love how this boxy Lucite coffee table manages to tie the room together perfectly. Plus, no need to worry about your toddler accidentally shattering the glass! One of my favorite features about Lucite is the fact that it's absolutely family-friendly.

It seems like every kid (and adult too!) craves a cozy little space to hide away. So why not create one that's especially designed to encourage curling up with a good book?
Creating a comfy reading nook for your bookworm doesn't necessarily have to involve a ton of extra work (or cash). Here are some fun and relatively easy ideas on how to pull together the perfect space for some good old-fashioned literary exploration!

The maker of this cozy spot managed to pull it all together using items found around her house like an old tablecloth and an unused bathroom cabinet. So creative, and I love the shade of pink on those walls!
This bright and dreamy canopy was fashioned with a few yards of silk and a circular quilting hoop. Seems simple enough, and how great is that handmade rainbow rug?

If you love to swing a hammer and get your hands dirty, this nook created from repurposed wooden pallets is right up your alley. Tool belt? Check!

Loving this vintage inspired space with its bold patterns and retro feel. Nothing here is more complicated than some bright pillows and floor mattresses covered in soft quilts.

I've seen several versions of this adorable DIY tent floating around, and all of them make me want to crawl right in and settle down with a good book. Perfect for a quiet afternoon.

One of my favorite things in the whole world is climbing into a bed made up with freshly cleaned and pressed sheets. So today, I thought it might be fun to take a sneak peek at how the "other half" lives -- or at least how they sleep.
Here are 4 luxury bed linen lines that most of us will never have a chance to experience -- but hey, at least we can dream about them!

Charlotte Thomas is well known for posh linens, but their "Bespoke" line takes things up a notch by weaving in actual 22k gold thread into the individually made, thousand-count Egyptian cotton sheets. Production can take up to 12 weeks and the price point is somewhere around $2,400.

D. Porthault has been purveying luxury linens for most of the last century to a clientele that has included Jackie Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn, and Sarah Jessica Parker. Expect to spend in the neighborhood of $1,400 for a queen set.

You will likely find Frette sheets gracing beds in five-star hotels throughout the world. Be prepared to spend $1,200 if you want this kind of luxury in your own room. Pocket change!

The "Milos" line from Sferra boasts 100 percent Egyptian cotton sateen with a 1020 thread count. I'm not sure exactly what that feels like, but I imagine it's somewhere close to heavenly. For only $1,600 you can experience these linens for yourself.
Wishing you had deeper pockets? Here's a little bonus to make us feel better. This set from Amazon features multiple four-star reviews, 100 percent Egyptian cotton, and 1200 thread count all for $70.94.
Tell me, what's the most you'd ever pay for high-end bedding? Know of any resources for high-quality, low-price bedding that you swear by?

I don't know about you, but I am starting to get some serious spring fever. We may have several weeks of winter left, but that hasn't stopped me from scouting out ways to welcome the sunshine. Here are five easy things you can do to encourage an early spring at your house.
Spring fever tip #1: Now is a lovely time to force some flowering bulbs like pristine paperwhites. These flowers bloom quickly and will last long enough to give you that extra boost until things start blossoming again outside. Buy a kit, or try this tutorial.

Spring fever tip #2: Add some life to your walls without painting. Hang a come-hither-spring print like this one from Katie Daisy.

Spring fever tip #3: Switch out your duvet for something a bit lighter and brighter like the one pictured here, designed by Dwell Studio. I have a few different duvet covers I rotate for this very purpose.

Spring fever tip #4: Accent pillows are the home decor world's easiest transformation tool. Throw brightly patterned pillows onto your sofa or chairs and you will be amazed at how different your space looks in an instant. I like these hand-block-printed options from West Elm.

Spring fever tip #5: Add something fresh or colorful wherever you can. Lay down a new table runner, buy a happy little tea kettle, maybe treat yourself to some gorgeous new dishtowels.

No, I'm not planning to decorate a nursery again, but I have several friends with growing bumps who are in the midst of deciding on all the sweet details of rooms just for baby.
I love putting together a nursery because you can have fun with it and be a bit brave in your choices. Here I've rounded up six gorgeous nurseries that all have something in common: eye-popping patterns on the walls. I love them and hope you do too.

I love the sweetness this soft floral pattern brings to this room.

The owners of this nursery didn't shy away from going bold with the wallpaper and vibrant accents. I love the patterned flooring. And the red dresser!

A classic pattern by Josef Frank brings so much interest to an otherwise neutral room.

I bet baby loves looking at the pattern and shimmer of this gold print.

This horse pattern is simply fantastic! You could easily duplicate it at home with a stencil or stamp -- no need to be too precise.

Even if it's cheesy, I love getting into Valentine's Day. Whether it's making valentines with my kids, scheming up a sweet gift for my husband, or crafting festive decorations for the home, I think it's fun to celebrate. Now that February is here, I'd better get cracking. Here are some projects I'd love to try out this year.
First, I want an entire ceiling full of these darling hanging hearts made from book pages.

A bright yarn wreath would be a perfect addition to our front door.

Look, another use for tissue poms. It makes me want to throw a party.

I love these sweet stitched hearts for Valentine's Day but think this would find a permanent place on the wall of my daughter's room.

This cute felt heart garland is a must. Inexpensive and easy, you could string these through the entire house.

Play kitchens are a classic toy that almost every kid loves. I know I've been frustrated in the past trying to find one that isn't cheap and plastic, so I was delighted to come across this completely adorable DIY version.
Made by Joni for her little Vivi, the fun touches like the metallic polka dots and custom paint job motivate me to bust out the tools and make one for my youngest. Keep reading for more details.

The reflective metallic circles add so much personality!

The "countertop" has enough space for all of Vivi's concoctions.

Joni used the measurements of this Pottery Barn kitchen for the shape and size. Then she customized it with paint (including chalkboard paint for the refrigerator), knobs found at The Home Depot, and metallic contact paper cut into circles (genius!). The sink is actually an old enamelware bowl.
I simply adore it, and I know my kids would too. Get all the details and lots more photos on Joni's blog, Lay Baby Lay.

Okay, for those of you who didn't feel the last nursery I featured was girly enough, I hope this one pleases your desire for pink. Yvonne decorated this nursery for her little baby girl with a splash of bright green on the walls and pink accents throughout.
I love that it all looks so doable -- in case you wanted to replicate some elements for yourself. See what I mean with more photos below.

This dresser is so practical and straightforward. It could be used as a changing table and offers plenty of storage.

Tissue poms are an example of a simple and inexpensive decoration that bring color and cute into the room.

Baby shoes as casual nursery decor are perfect.

This rocker is a design icon, but relatively inexpensive as far as designer chairs go.

My favorite detail of the room has to be the open closet. Baby clothes are so cute, why hide them in a dresser?
Ahhh, this nursery left me feeling happy. How about you?

January always brings a feeling of renewal, but I find that it quickly fades once February hits. So this year I'd like to make regular changes to my space that keep me inspired, and keep me feeling like the first of January never left. Here are five fairly easy ways I hope to freshen up my space in 2012.
Freshen up tip #1: Add color. Whether it's dining room chairs, a painting, or a throw pillow -- color always brightens a space.

Freshen up tip #2: Add crisp linens to the bed. Ahhh, doesn't the site of clean, white bed linens make you happy?

Freshen up tip #3: Paint! It's inexpensive considering what a big impact it can have on a room.

Freshen up tip #4: Just add light. It's easy to overlook or ignore light fixtures, but they can make such a difference.

Freshen up tip #5: Bring in the green. Plants are the definition of fresh and will help your space smell great too. Just remember to water. :)
What are some of your freshen up ideas for 2012?

This serene nursery created by Christine proves two things: First, just because your decorating for a girl doesn't mean you have to douse everything in pink, and, second, a DIY project doesn't have to be difficult to be effective. Take a closer look at the details to see what I mean.

When I first saw this room, the art above the crib is what stood out most. I thought for sure it was created by an artist, but it's actually just fabric from IKEA wrapped tightly around canvases. An inexpensive way to add interest to your walls.

Another way Christine added interest to the room is by replacing the boring knobs on the dresser with ones that are more visually interesting. Quick but effective.

The mustard yellow accents are a perfect complement to the gray. This cute pillow is from Etsy shop Honey Pie Design.
The child-size reading nook is probably my favorite element of the room. The book shelves were made from spice racks found at IKEA. Clever!
What do you think? Have you ever considered this color scheme for your girls?

Gone are the days when your only choices for calendars are plain black and white or the kitten ones found at mall kiosks. Now talented artists and designers are creating calendars that are mini masterpieces worthy of framing. Here are six that I've been dazzled by this year starting with this colorful illustrated one from Erin Jang. I love how much character it adds to the wall.

Michelle Armas is well known for her amazing abstract paintings. She chose a popular one to print for this poster calendar.

I'm a huge fan of Leah Duncan and to enjoy a whole year of her patterns would be such a treat.

This synchronized swimmer one from Mae Mae Paperie is a great mix of whimsy and color.

I love that with this calendar each month unveils a happy watercolor pattern from Flora Douville.

The dramatic print on this language of flowers wall calendar is right up my alley.
Does anybody else geek out over pretty calendars like I do? I kind of want to buy one for every room of the house to enjoy.

There's nothing quite as pleasant as a leisurely breakfast on a sunny morning. Maybe it's because it's very much a rarity here or because maple syrup is so delicious, but I would be content if that was my Christmas present this year. Of course, I would ask for one of these breakfast nooks to go along with it. Don't they look wonderfully cozy?

This classic booth style could easily fit in a lot of spaces. Just don't get stuck.

This is a little larger than a nook but still cozy. I love all the light streaming in.

My table would have to be larger than this quaint one since I love a good breakfast spread.

If you're custom building one, add extra storage while you're at it.

This one feels like it was transplanted from your favorite cafe.

I love the clever mix of the love seat and metal chairs.
So, what do you think? Does your dream space include a breakfast nook? Remember, it is the most important meal of the day.

It's so hard for me to commit to one style of Christmas decor because I know the next year, there will be something new that catches my eye. That's probably why our ornament collection is a random mix, from traditional to eclectic. Instead of fully investing in one style, I like the idea of buying inexpensive clear glass bulbs and customizing them to your mood.
Feeling glam? Try these pretty gold ones made by Jennie by using washi tape and tinsel. See four more perfectly festive ideas below.
Keighley made these pretty painted bulbs by simply swirling around acrylic paint and letting them dry. I love the colors she chose.

Ornaments aren't just for the tree. Melanie made this ornament chandelier with clear glass bulbs filled with feathers, tinsel, and glitter.

Keep the tissue paper out from wrapping gifts and add bits of it to ornaments for this decoupage look.

Or you could make your own mini winter scene. A cute sledding hill perhaps? Each one is like a mini diorama.
What style of Christmas decorations are you going with this year? Would any of these ornaments fit it?

There's an art to decorating with vintage pieces, and Vicki Eastland is an expert in the field. Not only does she know a good find when she spots one (ahem, that phone booth door), she knows how to mix vintage and modern finds to create a look that is far from contrived. While the red door stands out, there is an abundance of other details that you'll love in each corner of the room. Take a look.

Forget the mobile, go with a standing branch instead.

I like that she chose to keep the walls white. It keeps things fresh and doesn't distract from the details.

The perfect spot to read and cuddle. Loved those neat crates-turned-bookshelves!

And that might be the most fascinating stuffed little creature I have ever seen.

How fun to live in an older house with loads of character already built in. That fireplace is amazing!
I'm thinking Vicki will be getting some calls asking for her decorating advice now. Such a great room!
What do you think? Do you love the artsy details? Or long for something more orderly?

Most years, we like to put our Christmas tree up during Thanksgiving weekend. We ignore Black Friday and instead, we embrace our inner homebodies and use the time to prep and dream for the holiday excitement to come.
I'm not sure when Christmas trees arrive in France -- this year will definitely be an adventure -- but I love the idea of purchasing a series of small live trees and potting them in various containters to dot around the house. I imagine it would make every room feel festive, and smell fresh. Take a look at these images and tell me what you think.

Tiny plantings in mugs and ceramic jars would look festive on the kitchen counter.

This one makes a big impact in the house and would have big impact in the garden come spring time.

This is a smallish tree, but raising it up ensures it's still the focal point of the room.

These dwarf varieties make adorable gifts!

So what do you think? Fun and festive or too much of a sweeping hassle? Have you ever tried a live tree?
